Harini Nilakantan Biography:

Harini Nilakantan is a Multifaceted Movement Artist, Dancer, Choreographer. Harini became into limelight when she represents her dance form Bharatanatyam in the hybrid way and put her art form in the western dance form. In the age of four, she was enrolled in Bharatanatyam classes in Bangalore, India. Harini choosen her art form as a career at the age of nine. Everyone loves Harini’s dance form so much especially her friends and teachers. Harini Nilakantan is an Indian but she lives in the Chicago.

Harini Nilakantan Early Life:

Harini Nilakantan was born in a Tamilian family. She was born on December 5, 1998 in Bengaluru India. Harini Mother’s name is Vimala Nilakantan and her father’s name is Neel Nilakantan. Harini has also a younger brother, Arjun Nilakantan.

Harini started learning dance at the age of four under the guidance of Guru Shrimati Sujata Raghuvendra. And then, she moves in Pune, after completed her Arangetram (Arangetram is a portmanteau of the Tamil words for stage and ascent) under Guru Smt. Usha Rahul’s Abhinayadarpanam. After, she had to move to Chennai, IN where she started training and trained under Kalaimamani Guru Smt. Roja Kannan’s Bharathanatyalaya around 2005. After completed her High School she moves to Chicago for Higher Education.

Harini Nilakantan Education:

In 2020, She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts – BFA, Industrial and Product Design from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Then, in May 2023, she completed her Master’s degree, Museology/Museum Studies from University of Illinois at Chicago.

Harini Nilakantan Career:

After completed her education, in October 2020, she joined Health and Fitness company “Circuit Sehat” as a Graphic Design Chair. Then, she joined as a part time internship at the Historical Site Museum “South Asia Institue”. After then, in 2021, Harini makes her career in the field of Dance, she became a Professional Dancer in which she learned Multifaceted Movement Artist, choreography, Hybrid dance form.

Harini Nilakantan Language:

Harini Nilakantan speak our native language Tamil and Hindi as well as Spanish.

• In an interview she said that bringing more visibility to Indian classical styles of dance and pushing creative boundaries when choreographing has always been my goal. She also said, she’s (Maduri Dixit) the epitome of versatility – how she does justice to each style of dance the choreographer pulls from.
